Cyr Wheel-Workshop with Sasha Parkhomchuk
Cyr wheel is a relatively new discipline in the world of circus, which dynamically explores the harmonious interaction between human and object. The focus lies on the balance between body and wheel – a dynamic play with the wheel’s momentum and the hence resulting unique quality of movement. The cyr wheel offers reams of possibilities to explore movement, rotation and balance, and to discover new forms of expression. Because it requires rather coordination and sensitivity than physical strength, it can be accessible to many.
This workshop facilitates basic techniques, starting with methods of manipulation and goes as far as preparation exercises for the “waltzer”. All exercises will constructively be conveyed step by step, so the acquired knowledge can be exercised and deepened further on an individual basis. According to the participants’ requirements more advanced tricks can be shown and given a try with assistance. Furthermore, improvisational exercises will be offered in order to foster the creative connection to already known techniques.
Workshop content:
- warm-up: mobilising and strengthening
- body and space coordination
- individual tricks and methods of manipulation
- creative exercises and improvisation
- cool-down: stretching and relaxation
This workshop is for beginners as well as advanced learners, who’d like to refine their techniques and want to explore new forms of expression.
Please note: Cyr wheels have to fit the acrobat’s height. However, manipulation techniques and preparational exercises can also be tried and trained with various wheel sizes. Unfortunately not all wheel sizes may be available.
